Dedicated roles on site
Besides open source, AIMSTRONG takes on dedicated tasks in your network. AIMdefense protects the site as its firewall. The three COD roles handle access control, secured access and monitoring on site for the central platform.
AIMdefense
- Next Generation Firewall from Germany, software-first. Runs on every AIMSTRONG class.
COD-NAC
- Network access control on site. The appliance runs the RADIUS service based on FreeRADIUS. The central platform controls it and supplies its certificates.
COD-JumpHost
- Secured access point into isolated network segments. Through it, the central platform also reaches systems that are not directly reachable. It runs on a dedicated appliance, separate from NAC and monitoring.
COD-Monitoring
- Monitoring on site. The appliance collects metrics with Zabbix and forwards them as a proxy to the central server. In small environments, the server runs on the appliance as well.
The right class depends on your site, for example on the number of devices in the network. We size it together with you. We also clarify which roles can share one appliance.
Tested open-source solutions
OPNsense
- FreeBSD-based firewall and routing platform, available pre-installed on AIMSTRONG.
Proxmox VE
- Virtualization platform for virtual machines and containers.
IPFire
- Hardened Linux firewall distribution with a modular design.
PacketFence
- Network access control (NAC) solution for wired and wireless networks.
flexiWAN
- Open SD-WAN solution for connecting distributed sites.
pfSense® CE
- Proven open-source firewall distribution for routing, firewalling and VPN.
RELIANOID
- Open-source solution for load balancing and application delivery.
Zabbix
- Monitoring software for networks, servers and services.
- In small environments, Zabbix runs as the server directly on the AIMSTRONG, because little computing power is needed.
- Larger environments need high availability. Zabbix then runs as the server on AIMcompute servers, and the AIMSTRONG works on site as a proxy.
Proven in production on AIMSTRONG for years.
Go to AIMcomputeFreeRADIUS
- Widely used open-source RADIUS server for network authentication, for example via 802.1X on switches and Wi-Fi.
- On AIMSTRONG, it runs as the authentication service on site.
Proven in production on AIMSTRONG for years.
